What is Lymphedema?

Lymphedema is an accumulation of lymph fluid which occurs when lymph vessels are damaged or lymph nodes are removed; this condition can develop following surgery, radiation, infection, or trauma. Left untreated, lymphedema interferes with healing and increases the risk of infection. Symptoms include a sensation of fullness or tightness, reduced flexibility, and persistent swelling. Prompt diagnosis is the key to a good prognosis.

Lymphedema Prevention

Manual lymphatic drainage is frequently prescribed by physicians to prevent the development of lymphedema in post-surgical patients. This gentle, hands-on technique facilitates the circulation and detoxification necessary for tissue regeneration and healing.

Cancer patients must obtain their doctor's approval prior to receiving lymph drainage therapy.
